Despite the bad rap it’s been garnering around here at Engadget HQ, in the interest of remaining fair and balanced on the BenQ P50 (look, we’re really trying—we want to like it as much as you do) we do have to admit our little $800 friend is certainly starting to pull itself out of the mire. First we hear it’s going to support the Cingular/AT&T Wireless/T-Mobile-backed UMA standard out-of-box, and now we’ve been informed they’re planning on putting that integrated WiFi to good use: BenQ’s launching the P50 pre-loaded with Skype. We know, we know, it’s free software, but if BenQ even thinks its going to get away with what they’ve been doing with the P50, they’re going to have to keep piling up value-adds like nobody’s business. Value-adds like UMA and Skype, that is. Keep ‘em coming, BenQ, keep ‘em coming.

We thought something was up the other day. Reuters wrote something up about how Motorola’s just-about-to-be-announced E1060 handset was the long-awaited iTunes phone, but when Motorola actually unveiled the new phone they didn’t say a word about it running iTunes. Now it’s been confirmed that the E1060 is not the iTunes phone (or at least not one of the iTunes phones, there’s supposedly going to be more than one of them), something which will probably come as a relief to a lot of people, it didn’t sound like many of you were feeling the E1060.
